The Florida Sports Hall of Fame has announced it has entered partnerships with both the University of Florida and Florida State University’s athletic programs in its quest to recognize the state’s brightest and best sports celebrities, as well as to assist its mission in the fight against childhood obesity.
The UF Athletic Association and FSU Athletics join The University of Miami’s athletic program as sponsors of the Hall’s activities. The 55-year-old organization relies solely on the commitment of individuals, corporations, businesses, foundations and Florida’s sports organizations and franchises to fund its mission.
“I think it speaks volumes that these respected university athletic programs in our state want to hitch their wagons to the Florida Sports Hall of Fame,” said the organization’s President Barry Smith. “We believe they recognize that not only are we honoring great sports figures, but we are providing a voice in the fight against childhood obesity. We all want to get our young people off the couch and onto the field and courts.”
In addition to these collegiate partnerships, the FSHOF also has recent alliances with The Florida Panthers, Miami Marlins and Miami Dolphins among a host of other statewide corporate leaders. Ultimate Software, a Westin, FL company and A.T.A.P. Companies, based in Mount Dora, FL, were title sponsors at the Hall’s most recent enshrinement event.
The Florida Sports Hall of Fame’s 2016 Class will be selected this summer with the enshrinement activities to be held in November in Tampa, FL.
About the Florida Sports Hall of Fame
In its 55th year of recognizing the state’s brightest and best sports figures, The Florida Sports Hall of Fame continues its mission to honor our vast sports heritage by taking the inspiring stories of its 243 current members to the people of Florida. This outreach will be the hallmark of the modern-day Florida Sports Hall of Fame. While the Hall will continue to maintain a museum and preview center in Polk County, FL for memorabilia provided by the members, the modern-day Hall is mobile, flexible and personal. In keeping with its recently adopted slogan “Fame for Fitness,” the Florida Sports Hall of Fame has embarked on a journey to take its message and its membership across the state of Florida to promote fitness awareness and to fight childhood obesity.
