Under an exciting new alliance, the Florida Sports Hall of Fame will play a leading role in one of the state’s most time-honored traditions, the Governor’s Baseball Dinner, a celebration of the opening of spring training in Florida.
The annual celebration, which dates back to before World War II, will return to its Tampa Bay roots in 2018 when Tropicana Field will play host to the dinner and its ancillary events on February 15.
Under the auspices of Enterprise Florida, the Florida Sports Foundation has partnered with the Florida Sports Hall of Fame to stage this year’s event. The Hall of Fame is a 501c3 organization, whose mission is to provide a platform for its celebrity members to expand their contributions and good works, particularly with causes affecting the children of Florida.
This year’s festivities are presented by Fanatics, a worldwide retailer of licensed sports products and current manufacturer of all Major League Baseball uniforms under its Majestic Athletic brand. A Florida-based company, Fanatics has a significant presence in the Tampa Bay area.
“It is a great honor to affiliate our organization with this longstanding event in our state which traces its roots back to the 1940’s,” said FSHOF President Barry Smith. “Baseball runs deep in our Hall of Fame membership and we are proud to play a role in organizing this year’s event.”
The Governor’s Baseball Dinner was last held at Tropicana Field in 2013 and has been celebrated in West Palm Beach, Ft. Myers and Lakeland in recent years. A VIP Baseball Legends Reception and meet and greet will precede the 7 p.m. dinner. Representatives from many of the 15 teams who annually train in Florida will attend along with a number of baseball greats and Major League Baseball administrators.
Tables for the event, which seat eight, are priced at $1,000. VIP tables, which include admission to the Baseball Legends Reception, are $1,500. Individual seats are $135. Table and seat purchases can be made on line.
