This year’s winner of the 2024 Hewell Family Fame for Fitness Award, and a check for $5,000, is the Orlando After-School All-Stars.
Born out of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Inner City Games, Orlando After- School All-Stars (ASAS) has become a community leader in providing safe, quality comprehensive after- school and summer programming for the area’s middle and high school age youth.
ASAS provides before-school, after-school, and summer programming for more than 4,000 youth annually with a primary objective to improve academic achievement, lower juvenile crime rates, promote healthy living, foster civic leadership, and ensure career opportunity and access for the area’s most underserved youth. Core components of ASAS include STEM, athletics, health and wellness, art enrichment, and academic readiness.
Â
In addition to academic-based clubs, the program provides a variety of club-based activities that allow students to explore personal interests while developing their social and cultural acumen. These clubs operate during both the school year and summer programs and include performing arts, leadership development, athletic sports leagues, physical fitness and health education.
The organization uses an innovative an diversified year-round curriculum to engage youth so that they may develop the life-skills, maturity and confidence necessary to become responsible and productive citizens at home, school and in their community.
