Jack “Cy” McClairen was the first Bethune-Cookman College player to be drafted into the National Football League (NFL). While at Bethune-Cookman, he earned 12 varsity letters across three different sports: Football, basketball, and track.

After a successful career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he returned to his alma mater to become the winningest basketball coach in school history. During his 38-year affiliation with Bethune-Cookman, he coached football, basketball, golf and served as athletic director. He has been inducted into the Southern Intercollegiate Hall of Fame and the Bay County Hall of Fame.
