Mary Ann Gonzales of Busnell, FL is a Special Olympics athlete and official. Gonzalez became involved in Special Olympics at age nine. She has competed in athletics, basketball, golf, softball and volleyball, but in the 1990’s she showed an interest in other aspects of sports like coaching and officiating. After becoming a certified official, she was selected to officiate volleyball in the 1999 Special Olympic World Summer Games in Raleigh, NC, although she did not attend due to a knee injury.
Gonzalez went on to officiate the 2003 Special Olympic World Games in Ireland and the 2007 games in China. She has become a top notch volleyball official and has also officiated at the Special Olympics National Games.
